Managing your account

How do I register for and access the Joy of Living Online?

You can access all Tergar offerings with a single personal account (TergarID). The TergarID is your personal centralized user account that provides access to all Tergar platforms such as the Joy of Living Online, Vajrayana Online, Tergar Events and the Tergar Meditation Tracker app.

If you already have a personal account (TergarID), just use these credentials to login to the Joy of Living Online website by clicking “LOG IN” on top right of the main menu bar. If you are completely new, you can register by following the “SIGN UP” link and create your personal account. Registration is free.

Can I use an existing account and login?

Yes, you can access all Tergar offerings with your personal account (TergarID). The TergarID is your personal centralized user account that provides access to all Tergar platforms such as the Joy of Living Online, Vajrayana Online, Tergar Events and the Tergar Meditation Tracker app.

How do I change my email address?

To change your email address for your TergarID account please send an email request to [email protected]. In your request, please specify your current email address and your new email address.

If I do not remember my email address?

If you do not remember the email address that you used to register with Tergar in general or specifically the Joy of Living Online please send an email to [email protected]. Please specify your personal data such as first name, last name and if applicable your PayPal payer email address to allow us to research your Tergar login email.

How do I change my password?

Please login to your account profile at profile.tergar.org and change your password inside the Security Settings here profile.tergar.org/user/profile.

Alternatively, you can use the “Forgot your password?” link at the Tergar Login Screen to receive a password reset and change link in an email to your inbox. Simply provide your TergarID email address at the login screen and click “Forgot your password?”.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription(s)?

Please login to your account profile at profile.tergar.org and manage your subscriptions details in the “Purchases” section here profile.tergar.org/my-purchases

If your subscription was initiated before November 2023, you may not be able to manage your subscription details as described above. In such a case, please reach out to our support team at [email protected] and the team will manage your subscription according to your request.

How do I manage my payment details, such as credit card and paypal information?

Please login to your account profile at profile.tergar.org and manage your subscriptions and payment details in the “Purchases” section here profile.tergar.org/my-purchases .

If your subscription was initiated before November 2023, you may not be able to manage your payment details as described above. In such a case, please reach out to our support team at [email protected] and the team will guide you through the process.

Can I have a Vajrayana Online subscription and a Joy of Living subscription at the same time?

Yes, you can have two active subscriptions to the Vajrayana Online (learning.tergar.org) and the Joy of Living Online in parallel. Both subscriptions can be purchased under one single account and this is also the recommended way.

Accessing your course

How do I join the free “Intro to Meditation” course?

The “Intro to Meditation” course is available for free once you are logged in to the Joy of Living online platform. The course is available in the top navigation bar under “Program”.

If you already have a personal account (TergarID), just use these credentials to login to the Joy of Living Online website by clicking “LOG IN”. If you are completely new, you can register by following the “SIGN UP” link on top right of the main menu and create your personal account. Registration is free.

How do I access the “Joy of Living” courses?

To access the “Joy of Living” courses, you need to sign up for a subscription at the available rates. Simply click “SIGN UP” or pick one of the subscription price boxes. If you need support in setting up a subscription or if you need financial assistance please don’t hesitate to reach out to our support team at [email protected].

Do I have to be online at a specific time?

You can take the courses at any time you want. Sometimes there will be some live activities like the webinars that occur on a specific schedule. You also have the option to schedule an interview with one of the Tergar guides, so you will need to attend your meeting at the time you selected.

About meditation practice

Is it important to have a daily meditation practice?

The goal of meditation practice is to bring awareness to every moment of one’s life, not only the time spent in  formal meditation. Setting aside time each day to cultivate awareness is a crucial part of the process. The more time  you devote to meditation “on the cushion,” the easier it is to bring awareness into daily life.

How long should I meditate?

When beginning a daily meditation practice, it is important to meditate in short, frequent sessions. A good guideline is to practice less than you know you can, i.e, break up with meditation before it breaks up with you. Letting practice sessions be short keeps your meditation fresh while repeating it many times enhances your meditation. As you progress, slowly increase the time spent in formal meditation as well as applying awareness, short times, many times, in your daily life.

How do I know if I am really meditating?

Meditation is to recognize awareness. When you try to meditate, there will be periods when you are lost in thoughts, and other times when you are aware and in the present moment. Whether you are using a support for the practice, like your breath, or simply resting in awareness, the sign of meditation is that you know what you are doing. In other words, you know you are watching your breath. Meditative awareness can be practiced anywhere, anytime under any circumstances.

What do I do when thoughts come up?

One of the most common misconceptions about meditation is that one should not have any thoughts while meditating. Luckily, this is not the case. Thinking is a natural function of the mind, and there is no need to stop thoughts from occurring. When you are meditating and you realize that you have been lost in thought, simply return your awareness to the object of your meditation. That’s it!  You may even use thoughts as the object of meditation, or resting in open awareness, letting thoughts come and go as they like while simply resting in awareness. The key point is that thoughts are a natural part of meditation. As you grow more familiar with meditative awareness, you will see that thoughts are not obstacles to meditation. On the contrary, you may find that thoughts actually can be reminders for recognizing awareness.

How does meditation relate to daily life?

Meditation allows you to be more aware and present in whatever activity you are doing. This has benefits in all aspects of daily life. In relationships, meditation will help you develop unconditional love that springs from a place of deeply seeing the other person. At work, meditation will enable you to be more focused, creative, and efficient, while at the same time being emotionally balanced. In terms of health, meditation has been shown to have an impact in many areas, including lowering stress levels, increasing immune system functioning, and increasing the capacity to cope with illness and chronic pain.
